Our PROCESS

Every stage built on craftsmanship and care

At WD Autobody we believe every classic car has a story worth preserving. Our restoration process is built on a foundation of transparency, precision, and a respect for automotive history. Whether you're restoring a family heirloom or a rare collector's car, here’s what you can expect from start to finish.

our Restoration Starter Guide

We specialise in professional car restoration services, combining expert craftsmanship with a passion for reviving classic and heritage vehicles. Whether it’s a full restoration, custom build, or partial repair, we approach every project with precision and respect for your car’s history. From complete start-to-finish restorations to those needing just the final craftsmanship, we bring every car back to life.

Our car restoration step by step process starts with a thorough assessment of your vehicle’s visible condition and your restoration goals. Since some issues only become clear after paint and bodywork removal, we work on a transparent time and materials basis, keeping you informed every step of the way.

From rust repair, metal fabrication, and panel alignment to high-quality paint finishes, we use advanced techniques to restore your vehicle to factory standards. Safety compliance and authenticity are always top priorities.

Before handing over your restored car, we perform a detailed final inspection and finishing to ensure it meets our commitment to excellence. The result is more than just a restored vehicle, it’s your legacy brought back to life.

Detailed Restoration process

Step 1 – Discovery & Vehicle Assessment

We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand your vision, goals, and budget. To accurately assess the vehicle and determine the best restoration approach, we’ll need to inspect the car ideally at our workshop. If the car is not drivable, we can arrange to meet with you at its location to carry out an initial assessment and discuss the project in detail.

Step 2 – Estimating & Planning

Restoration estimates are prepared based on the car's visible condition and your specific restoration preferences, whether that involves a full strip-down or a partial restoration. Given that many aspects of the car’s condition remain concealed until paint and bodywork are removed, all work is performed on a time and materials basis. Due to the inherently unpredictable nature of classic car restoration, especially hidden rust or structural concerns these estimates serve as a guideline only. Any adjustments or additional costs will be transparently communicated and will require the customers approval before proceeding.

Step 3 – Disassembly & Documentation

Your car is carefully disassembled. Every component is photographed, labelled, and catalogued, preserving a record of its journey and supporting accurate reassembly.

Step 4 – Parts Purchasing

At WD Autobody, you can choose to source and provide your own vehicle-specific parts. If needed, we’re also ready to help locate those rare, hard-to-find components to keep your restoration on track.

Step 5 – Rust Repairs, Fabrication & Bodywork

Existing paint, body fillers, and coatings are carefully stripped away to expose the bare metal beneath.  Any rust or structural issues are repaired using advanced methods including rust repair fabrication, metal shaping, and custom tooling, ensuring every part is crafted to factory standards.

Step 6 – Paint Preparation & Refinishing

Our Paint Shop meticulously prepares, primes, and applies quality finishes to every vehicle. Whether you prefer the original factory colour or a custom shade, we can assist with colour selection to achieve the perfect look. From simple designs to highly creative requests, whether it’s ghost stripes, a striking pearlescent finish, or something entirely unique.

Step 7 – Electrical & Reassembly

We carefully reinstall each part, bringing your car back to its original form. Whether preserving original details or adding custom touches, we focus on craftsmanship and quality to ensure your restoration feels authentic and complete.

Step 8 – Final Inspection

Before handing over the keys, each vehicle undergoes an exhaustive final inspection and meticulous detailing, ensuring every aspect meets our standards of quality and craftsmanship.

Step 9 – The Handover - Honouring Your Journey

This isn’t just restoration, it’s a revival of your passion and legacy. Reborn with soul and ready to write its next chapter. The moment you’ve dreamed of is here. Experience the heart of WD Restorations and explore real stories from our customers as we bring legends back to life.
